Just wanted to post a quick message to say thanks to Sky Insurance for their excellent quote and great service.
I bought a Mark 6 GTI in July this year which is my first performance car (previously had Fiestas, Clios etc.) and one of my big worries was whether the insurance would be obscene. The insurance on my Ford Fiesta had been £660 per year and I was worried I could be paying over twice that amount once I took delivery of the GTI. I'm 25 and the insurance is for me and my wife, including business use for her, 12,000 miles p.a. with 3 years no claims.
My renewal quote from my insurance company was £1,253 and when I got quotes through comparison websites they ranged from £963 (if I was willing to have a box fitted to my car reporting on my driving....which, suffice to say, I wasn't) all the way up to £10,000! Some insurers even refused to offer me cover (Aviva)! The cheapest standard (i.e. non-box) policy I came across was around £1,100 from Elephant.
After despairing with the comparison websites, I tried VW Insurance. They were actually really competitive - quoting a price of £979 (after a bit of haggling).
After reading about Sky Insurance on here, I also tried their website. The quote I was given online wasn't really competitive but Luke from Sky rang me back and ended up quoting me £852 all in (including the discount for being a member of this forum).
Really friendly service, all done very quickly over the phone too - highly recommended! And best of all, less than £200 more expensive than the insurance had been on my Fiesta.
If you're insuring your GTI, I would definitely recommend that you try Sky Insurance.
