whats legal , window tint

does any one no what the legal grade of tint is for my mk6 . been told you can go as dark as you want on the rears , is this true . seen n edition 35 at a show recently and there back windows were like they d been sprayed with a tin of satin black they were that dark . this car was on corkils vw demo car so surely is legal

From DVLA Site,

The law requires that the windows on the vehicle allow at least:
75 per cent of light through the front windscreen
70 per cent of light through the front side windows
In most modern vehicles there is a slight tint added to the windows when they are made. If you add any more tint it’s likely to result in the windows failing to meet the legal requirements.
The rules on tinted windows don’t apply to the rear windscreen or the rear passenger windows.

I believe the factory tint is as dark as you can go.

Edi35 tints are 90% from factory with front windows smoked.

This is 100% true, I've removed countless chavvy front tints that are anything more than factory

So I take it that it's ok to smoke your headlights like in your signature picture? 

I really don't know the law on smoked headlights but surely it would affect your cars visibility at night and insurance would frown upon it.

Mot law only states you have to project an equal amount of yellow/white light from the front so smoked head lights are perfectly legal, I used fly eyes which doesn't really prevent light getting through due to its design so visibility is not really effected .....insurance wise I guess you should tell them as its a modification but then so is the whole vento front end

Ah cool. So technically you could have very little light but as long as both sides are equal then it's still legal
