Late model 8v Specs................

Does anybody know if there was a standard spec for 91 8v models, or is it just a case of what options were picked at the time of order?

Reason I ask is my car seems to have some differences between a lot of other late cars, so not sure if it is the original spec or a lot of bits have been replaced over the years.........

I have MANUAL windows, interior trim/seats that are not the "checked" early type, but also not the rainbow type. No split in the rear seat (have read somewhere that Jettas have no split rear, but Golfs should have), fully dark tinted rear lights (not standard or half-tinted), sunroof that slides only (no tilt), manual mirrors (not even heated)...........I think that's all the bits I am curious about.....

I am beginning to wonder lately about the car, it seems to be slowly falling to bits! There are a lot of rusty engine/gearbox components which has always bugged me - like the car was underwater for a while or something! lol

I have a 1990H 8v digifant. It has manual windows, no rear speakers and no split in rear seat. It does have a sunroof , central locking and pas so it is a bit of a muddle too.
My engine block inc distributor etc also covered in surface rust but I think it is a 2 litre block and got that way lying about somewhere!

Interior has kind of red diagonal stripes on dark grey cloth and is ok IMO. Manual mirrors and normal lights.
It idles badly but goes like stink 0-60 in 7.3 secs in the rain.

ok, here we go with the bits I know/remember from my car, which is a '90 8v.

I have manual windows (electric were options on 90/91)
I have black/grey seats with red/grey check
No split in my rear seat
Sounds like your rear lights have been changed. All 8v had standard (non smoked) rear lenses, apart from the very late run out models.
I have manual mirrors (I don't think heated were available!)

Central locking is standard. I have no PAS (option)

Sunroof is standard

Both sound pretty similar, so feeling better that the car is actually a GTI! lol 

Something else that was mentioned on another thread was aerials - I don't have a bee sting but thought they were standard on 90 spec cars...............

Sunroof was standard. Ive fitted... electric heated mirrors, electric windows, leather interior, 60/40 rear split which were optional extras from other mk2's

all i need now is an electric sunroof and aircon to complete my collection

8v aerial is in the passenger front wing..leave it there it's an 8v it doesn't want a bee sting!!

there were all sorts of interiors, yours probably have red diagonal stripes on dark grey?
manual windows as standard, manual windows as standard, not all were 60/40 split rear seats, none had tilt/slide sunroofs i don't think, the ones you see are audi conversions, your rear lights are after market although hella did fully smoked lights which were a dealer option i think as my mates mum had them on her gl. sounds like you've got a bog standard mk2 gti to be honest!!

as for a rusty engine bay..... its a 15 year old car, what do you expect?

Nothing is standard on the GTI apart from the sunroof, not even central locking or green tint glass
What you have all comes down to how tight the original buyer was!

Beesting was only on the late 16v as standard IIRC, and the Golf never got a tilt n slide roof, not even the late GTIs.  No idea why this is, but a Scirocco roof will fit as will some old Audi 80 ones.

something that's puzzled me about seats. on my first '86 8v gti I had the red/grey patten ones. in my '87 8v gti I had grey ones that had tilt adjustment only on the driver's side. the passenger side is very high compared. on the '89 8v gti I have as my daily it also has these seats.

I was told by the previous owner of my 20vt (before it was 20vt'd) that the seats were from a mk3, but now I know they're not as the mk3 seats are different.

none of my mk2's had electric anything or PAS. it's all been added later down the line.

Mines a 91 H plate 8v it has, electric windows, electric mirrors not heated, pas, central locking but has not got a split folding rear seat....
