A daft question maybe but those rear bump stops..

You know the ones, stock items about 4" long or more with the dumbbell top end..
Just what is their purpose exactly.. ?
If they are to stop suspension bottoming out then they will be obliterated soon, as were the originals i removed, totally busted up with just the bottom half inch still holding the inverted plastic cover cup.
Perhaps they are for rear suspension assistance?  because when in situ with the weight of the vehicle on the springs (stock setup) they are already almost riding on the bumpstops.

So, basically i'm going back to a stock setup but putting on these dirty great long Bstops looks wrong more than right.

Any thoughts welcome

Spot on, they are to stop the shock bottoming out, madness to run without them.

You only want to cut them down if you're running shorter springs. If you say you're going back to stock them simply fit new ones and forget all about them.

No doubt at all they'll stop any bottoming out, it's just it appears these Bstops are taking up practically all the free travel to begin with, as obviously were the originals.
Though i guess i'll go with as vw intended eh

Cheers for the replies
