A few Questions again?
« on: 18 August 2012, 16:31 »
Firstly, can I apologise for my lack of knowledge re diesels! :embarrassed: Never had one before!

1. I have noticed that when the car is stationary it sometimes vibrates and I can feel it through the footwell. The gears work perfectly and the clutch seems fine. What could this be?

2. When accelerating I notice the whine noise coming from the turbo. It is not that loud and the engine runs fine and accelerates perfectly. Is this normal?

Thanks Luke

Vibration - DMF. Depending on age/milage, this is usually the first sign that it is on it's way out.

Whistle from turbo - would be wise to check it out, whistling could be the vanes sticking. could whip the hoses off to see what the inside is like.

Thanks for the reply. If the DMF fails is it likely to cause damage? Is it a big job to replace?

Thanks

If it goes in a big way then yes it could cause some damage to the box.

It's a complete box out job normally, so without either a pit or some way of lifting the front of the car right up then it's not practical to do it on the drive. Usually £350 for parts (as you might as well get the clutch done as well) then about the same for labour.
