Hi Guys,
My name is Joe and I'm from Aberdeen and have loved mk2's for years

Now after writing off my mk5 1.9tdi I've decided that its time to get the car I've always wanted and I'm taking the golden opportunity to get a hold of a mk2 gti

Now as I live Aberdeen, good examples at a half decent price really do seem to be very few and far between and my search has now led me to look to the rest of the UK. I by chance stumbled over a nice example on ebay for sale in Shrewsbury and as I am in Aberdeen and cant really view the car before putting in a deposit, I have been bombarding the seller with questions for quite some time now. The more I ask, the more the car seems just right, it has a full years mot and has had lots done to it recently including... well ill just copy and paste the advert

"This is the reluctant sale of my MK2 Golf GTI
I purchased the car in 2007 with the intention of restoring it to its former glory and driving as a daily, however due to the cost of insurance at my age I can't afford to put it on the road and hate seeing it sitting there not being enjoyed.
On the 04/06/2012 the car flew through its MOT with no advisory’s
The car is mechanically sound -
I've recently (last few months) refurbished the rear beam fitting new bushes and all copper brake lines, replaced handbrake cables, all round new brake hoses, new discs and pads, new rear wheel bearings, new tie rod ends, replaced CV boots, wiper blades and more.
Prior to this in 2008 I fitted a replacement engine as the original's bottom end had gone. At the same time I fitted a new clutch, changed all belts etc, all of witch I have receipts for.
The engine has covered 123378 miles - the clocks in the car came with this engine. I also have the original clocks from the car with 167619 miles on.
The paintwork is the 23 year old original so as you can expect needs polishing frequently to avoid it fading and unfortunately is covered in rust scabs from stone chips so not going to win any shows without a respray.
The steel wheels admittedly look bit silly due to size 155/70 R13 however front tyres are Michelin Energy’s with 3.5mm of tread left and the rears are Arrowspeed SB-702 with 5.5mm of tread.
Always starts first time on the key!
Only 3 Former keepers
Clean interior
Modifications:
The car is lowered on 40mm lowering springs
Has a rare Fischer CBox (retro cassette holder)
Fibreglass eyebrow spoiler
Crystal front indicators with built in side lights
Front doors are linked with electric power locks
Bad bits.. All cars have them!
O/S rear engine mount has play in, making a knocking noise.
Driver’s seat bolster has lost its shape.
Driver’s door card has a dip in it from where someone has rested their arm.
The black strip above the rear number plate is lose due to the fixing hole being rusty
Rusty spots all over the car, noting major considering its 23 years old!
Has the average supermarket dinks.
Currently on SORN."
Anyways, I asked the guy to send more pictures of the worst of the rust and just need some opinions on the photos he sent me of the rusty bits

He wants £800 for it, but is it worth it?

Any opinions would be highly valued and I look forward to hearing from some of you
