Genuine wings NLA
« on: 05 June 2012, 12:12 »
So, it seems that wings are now obsolete from VW. And I'm tired of going to look at wings that are nowhere near as good as advertised, so I'm wondering if anyone has some recommendations for after market suppliers. Thought about the ones that vw heritage are selling but after talking to them they're not actually OEM but from a supposedly OEM quality supplier in Germany. 140 quid each seems like a lot to pay for something that's not genuine.

One option I've been looking at is GPC have some in stock from a German supplier that are a lot cheaper than the ones from heritage. Anyone have any experience of them?

I thought OE wings were still available from VW, and also through Heritage
Have you tried a different dealer?

The problem is getting hold of second hand ones that are still straight and rust free. It's always been my understanding that even if it's surface rust the only way to be sure of getting rid of it is chopping out. Have looked at a few examples now only to be disappointed.

Spoke to about 5 different vw dealers and they all said they were now obsolete. And the ones from heritage through vw classics are OE equivalent, not OE.

Hmmm thats interesting, because VW were supposed to be re manufacturing these again, along with Mk1 wings... this was less than a year ago iirc
Interesting thread from last year http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=191896.0

I'll do a bit of digging to see is I can find out what's going on!

I've also heard/read that the only wing that VW Classic in German have in stock is one side of the G60's, that they remade last year...

All others are now sold out...

Surely they will do another batch of wing's??

Just had a new wing fitted to my big bumper model. ETKA shows that dropped in April last year and I could not source a genuine VW - not even from VW Heritage. So repro fitted by garage - oh well!. Actually seems reasonable quality but am unable to say where they sourced it. Only issue is that the trim clip hole for the horizontal bit from the arch trim is not there. Garage did not discover before painting so I have to spoil their finish with a post-drilled hole - grrr!
