Middle section exhaust guard screws

Hi was wondering the middle section of the exhaust the heat sjield the metai holders ( the ones with the triangles sticking out of the black circle thingy) have disintegrated.

Where can i get these?

Ir can i just use a washer and nut to hold the guard up or is it too hot and ut will be impossible to get off in the future if i need to.

This is the end closest to the cat. It is rattling really loud on start up.


Any help would be appreciated.

Iv used a wosher and a 10mm nyloc nut on mine works a treat

the main dealer here in Milton Keynes had no idea of what I was talking about. They told me they have not seen a mark III golf for servicing for quite some time..

I hope it just needs a washer and a bolt and that will do the trick.. I don't really understand why VW put the very thin star shaped holder onto it instead..is this to let the heat sheild have some play?

Or was it a money saving measure or to make sure that these things deteriorate over time and then to scare the hell out of the owner thinking that their engine is kaput....

Tbf most dealers haven't got a clue once you start asking for little bits and pieces, especially for older motors. I always try and take the part numbers with me before asking for anything from them these days.

They are not 10mm. Got to be smaller!

Ive had a similar query in the last couple of days.
I found m6 nylocs too big and m5 nylocs too small.I have a drawer full of different bits of trim clips and nuts etc and found a couple that fitted but decided to just run a die nut down the thread and take it to 5mm then just used a stainless steel repair washer and nut.
Its a very course thread and looks like a bloody wood screw sticking out the floor pan!
