I think I might experiment a little with the timing as its easy to check if it's fixed or not without even driving.
Blue temp sender is still a possibility, but I checked my spare one and it was 3.8kohm at around 7c which is about right I think.

Just been out playing with the timing, tried it at around 3 degrees and it still hesitates, so put it back to 6. Tried a new dizzy cap and rotor arm, no change. I noticed the dizzy has a connector on the side for a spade connector, should there be an earth on this?
