Sat on a bench beside the boats cruising the Lake, a guy came and asked me the time and whilst I was checking my watch another guy just knocked the shoulder strap down and just snatched the camera away, as I stood up to give chase the first guy smacked me in the eye.  Nice people...not!  But thanks I am ok really, pride took a battering and loads of people just stood and watched.

Shocking behaviour for the Lake District.
I've wandered around London numerous times with my camera without a problem, but you wouldn't expect that in the lakes.

Opportunists I think, I've been to the Lakes countless times and had no problems before.  This is not meant to sound racist because I am not a racist but I do think they were foreigners by the accent of the chap who asked me the time, he sounded European.

Thanks, not sure I would wish that upon them however I appreciate the sentiment lol.  I have put a claim in and will certainly buy another.
Years ago I had a Pentax ME Super so may think about a Pentax instead.

I think the brand names Nikon and Canon on a strap make them more attractive to thieves. People see Sony, Pentax or Olympus, they're probably not so bothered because they wouldn't fetch as much selling them on.

It seriously sucks, but at least you can get a new one.

Really sorry to hear about such a brutal attack in such a place, I really think you are unlucky and this is not the norm.

Know what you mean about how people just watch things happen.

Just back from Holiday in Tunisia and did see the odd unlikeley chap looking at my camera, though with a manky bag, electrical tape stuck on parts of the camera to make it look used and old and being 6ft 3 all worked in my favour.

I also chose to wrap the strap multiple times round my wrist, meaning even if i let go of the camera it was still firmly attached, if they cut the strap, the web of strapping round the wrist would act like a knot.  I just hoped they don't have machete's there.

I also took a photo of one very dodgy chap and cycled the memory cards at first opportunity.
