and to the op you have answered your own q's really get some coilovers and a nice set of wheels less is more maybe source an anni kit genuine one if you can and it will look pretty

i have to agree getting it looking nice and if you get a diesel then your looking at some pretty decent modding with simple things so just take your time and i would declare the mods last thing you want is to be stung by and insurance company for just being lowered

Id say just buy one thats been done ,  get a PD mk4 with a set of coilovers and wheels, or buy a bog tdi,   dont go 1.4 or 1.6 their a waste of time,   let someone else spend the money, it may not be exactly to your taste but its better than starting from scratch!

This was my personal spend on my 1.8t which was relativley standard compared to some on here!

Car - £1650   Cheap!!
BBS LM reps - £300
Tyres- £400
Forge 007p - £80
Coilovers - £170
Remap - £200
Anni Trim - £100
Milltek discreet - £220
HIDS - £55
Boost hoses and n75 - £200
Panel Filter - £35

£1760 on modifications  plus the car ,  and like i said thats a pretty standard set of mods!

Buy one thats been done and youll save yourself alot,  lets face it you wont be keeping this car 10 years so whats the point in spending your hard earned money on it!
