engine swap
« on: 16 April 2012, 12:27 »
hi i've got a 1.6 driver which needs a engine change as one of the ports where the spark plugs screw into the head has been cross threaded by the last owner :( so i'm losing compression while i've got my foot down (misfiring, coughing and losing power) plus i want bit more power from my car.
As its my first project i don't want to go for a huge engine change i just want to change the head on it.
So i was wondering what head fits onto the 1.6 bottom end, engine code is ez, year is 1990.
I've found that the gti 8v from the mk2 fits but you need to block up the injection ports as i'm going to run it off a weber carb.
Does the mk3 1.8 8v fit onto the 1.6 bottom end as i think you don't have to block anything up on it as its single point injection? Just need to take the injection off and put the carb and inlet manifold off my current engine.
If anyone can help with this it'l be great :)
I'll also be uploading pics of what i've done so far on the car.
