Track rod ends
« on: 06 March 2012, 19:44 »
I can't get one of my track rod ends off, it will not undo. Can I take the rod out of the steering rack end with out any problems?

Heat it of hit it with a hammer near the check nut.  Careful not to round the nut off tho.  Clean threads up with a wire brush and soak in WD40.

if you have access to a ramp then get someone to hang on the track rod while you undo it, worked a bit for me, but only for a little then we decided to get a big blow torch on it and heat it untill it was glowing read then do it up and that worked, just remember after to put some water over it to cool it back down.

Best to leave it as metal becomes brittle when rapidally cooled down.  last thing you want is your steering arm to crack if you hit a bump!
