Possibly returning to a Golf!
« on: 21 February 2012, 13:42 »
Hi Guys,

Back in June 2010, I started work on doing up a Mk3 CC GTI http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=158362.0

Last April I sold the car and bought a fantastic EP3 Civic Type R, and thought I'd never look back. I absolutely love the car, but I've quite a lot of travelling coming up over summer, so would be quite a good idea to change to something more economical, with air con.

There is a Mk 4 GT TDI 150 coming up for private sale from someone I trust, so thinking about switching.

It's a 53 plate (2 years newer than my civic)
Leather, climate control, fully standard etc.
Asking price will be about £3.5k so worth the same as my current car.

I don't expect to get the same level of excitement out of the Golf, but seeing as most of my driving is done at rush hour or on the motorway, I'm not really 'using' the Civic anyway.

My questions are:

What sort of MPG could I expect from A roads and duel carriageways driving sensibly? Civic is doing about 28-30
What should I be looking out for with these engines, how many miles are to many miles?
Do the 150's offer much performance if I do want to put my foot down? I've never owned a diesel, but I imagine it should pull quite well in comparison to my 200bhp v-tec from a rolling start.
I'm not sure of the mileage at the moment, but what should I be expecting for £3.5K? It's just had a new cambelt.
How much is 12 months tax? Can't seem to find this info anywhere

Cheers guys!

A 150 PD with a  map and you may be pleasantly surprised

MPG should be around 50MPG  550+ miles to a tank

All in all if its been looked after and the usual MK4 faults have been sorted id say it would be ideal for what you want

Nice to see you're from Devon too!

Remaps likely to cause clutch/turbo problems?

Near Newton Abbot

Not really clutch can last for years - depending on how its driven  turbo shouldnt be an issue with a basic reamp without silly boost.

The only thing is the cam wear fault which seems more common on the 150 even thought the 130 shares the same cam.

Do you know the mileage yet?

I'm originally from Ashburton.

It's done 120k. I think it should be priced nearer £2.8k with this mileage.
