Red rubber door strips and rough black tape.
« on: 31 May 2005, 22:34 »
While looking over the tidying up I have to do on my doors (yet more stone chips and a couple of small scratches) I prised off the bump strips running along the side to see if I had any nightmares waiting for me underneath them, thank god there weren't any. Anyway after taking them off I wondered if the car would look better if I removed the red glued on rubber strips just above the big plastic strips whilst leaving the red strips on the bumpers (can't remove them anyway afaik) and the front surround of the grill. Also thought about removing the thin black strips that run along the side of the car and around the back but leaving the rear windscreen surround on.

How many people have removed these and found it to be better. My thoughts were to make it easier to clean and less busy down the sides. I did want to keep the car original as much as possible so am I ruining it by thinking of doing this. I realise once I've done it there is no going back as finding the back stick on stuff for sale is like getting blood out of a stone and I assume the red rubber strips are just as hard to get hold of?

Also going thru the "do-i-don't-i" phase re the rough strip.  Thinking it will have to go, as is starting to peel away after too many jet washes.  Think the end may be nigh, as have seen a few pics recently of cars without and they look OK.  No doubt I will want to put it straight back on after..... :undecided:
