Whoops.
Sorry gang, I deleted my thread about my troubled journey home.

Just to remind y'all:
Slipping clutch, oil leaking from housing, lots of knocks and now a howling from the transmission. And an inability to change gears now.

I was erring on the side of a crank seal gone, but I'm not so sure now.

Yeah I know. Does smell like engine oil. Its just the way the box is behaving.... God knows! Grazed knuckle time!

If the gearbox is that noisy it suggests it has lost most / all of its oil
