Grinding from rear Brakes

hi, completely new to this site, and cars in general. i have a mk4 golf s, 1.4 petrol. recently in the past two weeks when coming to a holt(slow driving) and setting off (slow driving again) i can hear this type of grinding noise from the rear passangers wheel. and as the days go on, sounds louder. i was wondering if any one has a clue what it can be? brake disk?? brake pad?? or something else?? thanks

check pad and see how worn down it is?

if its really worn down could be time to replace pads/maybe disk if its been left like that too long.



if now then could be a seised caliper as said, only way i could see you really being able to check that is taking it off and seeing if you can wind the piston back in? not sure if youde be able to see if theres any movement while the calipers on the car? could be wrong though you might be able to see, ive never really tried to look

Binding rear calipers seem to be a common thing for mk4s

Had this problem a few weeks ago. It was a seized caliper. I replaced the caliper along with the discs and pads to be on the safe side. You could possibly have the caliper released, but IMO you're better off shelling out for a new one.
