abs

Hi,
I'm new to this forum and have recently bought my 5th volkswagen gti.I have noticed that the abs bulb has been removed for some reason and when i have braked hard the abs doesn't pulsate.Is this a serious problem???Also i'm having trouble setting the standard volkswagen alarm system with th total closure set up on it.Any ideas or information on either of these subjects would be appreciated.The car is a 95 golf gti.

if the bulb has been actively removed i'd suspect immediately that there is an ABS problem on the car. replace the bulb and see if it stays on when you start the car.


btw.. what is the problem with total closure?

thanks for replying overseer,I've replaced the bulb this afternoon and it stays on now,also the airbag light doesn't work either!I think it will have to go into a garage and have the wheel sensors looked at.I've had the car a day now and getinng hassle already.
The alarm is a pain to set up.All i want it to do is to open and close the doors and for it not to go off while i'm in the car with the engine not running!When i undo it the windows go down half way in the front.I have turned the damn thing off at the mo,could be another job for the garage.

It's unfortunate but removing the bulbs for the ABS and airbag is a nasty trick often pulled when it comes to sell one of these cars. I know that it's too late now, but the two lights should come on when the car is started and then quickly go off.

I don't know if it's possible to get some kind of FAQ started for the MK3s on things to look for as I often hear about the bulbs being removed to fool people. Maybe one of the mods could create one and we could add to it as we find things we wished we'd looked at.
