titanic was in the middle of a very cold north sea, hundreds of miles from any shore, minue degree temperatures...

this was 400m from a shore in the Mediterranean

one thing about this though, is blame culture, somebody is always to blame for something nowadays, nothing is ever an accident, its not like the captain done this delibrately

o really, his bosses are saying  different today and blamed him 100%
