Power loss
« on: 20 September 2003, 00:03 »
;D Hi everyone, I am new to this web site and was looking for a little advise.

I've just put an K&N indution kit on my 96 Mk3 GTi 2.0 8v and it now sounds great but it feels like its lost quite a bit of power. Has anyone else found this or does anyone have any needed advise?

Now I know what your thinkin, a 8v with lost power, holy crap does it even go now. Well the answer is yes but only just  :D.

Cheers.

Alright mate,

There could be a few causes of the power loss. First, because you have ditched the air box you are now letting in the hot air from the engine. This significantly reduces power, see if you can get hold of a heat shield. Secondly, it may be worth getting the fuel/air mixture checked becuase now you have more air going in to the engine.
It might also be worth checking if the kit is fiited correctly and that it is the right kit for the car. My mate has got a VR6 and he ordered a jetex induction kit, the car pulled like a milk float, then we found out they had supplied the wrong size cone filter.
Hope this helps
Tom

Is there an air leak on the induction? Hot air isn't really a problem as the cone should sit right in the wing, you cannot alter the fuel/air mixture as this done completely by the ecu.

Hi guys,

There is definately no leaks and it is the right size cone. I think i'll try the heat shield idea even though the cone is close to the wing and i have the cold feed pipe connected properly.

Is that correct that i cannot ajust the air/fuel mix?

Thanks very much for your replies.

Cheers.

Maybe there is a problem with your airflow meter, might just be have gone wrong anyway. Have you tried changing back to standard setup?
