just outta curiosity is the top of your rocker cover wet with oil also? the oil cap seals can go hard and allow oil out there also, which runs down the front of the block also

the amount of oil on your air filter will give you a good idea on how heavy your car breathes. if you let it drip onto the road then it will also drip onto your driveway when parked up!!

Dont have a driveway so i dont really care. Come to think of it i dont have a house either! Hopefully that will change soon.

Would be hard to tell at the moment, I'm a bad aim with the oil when filling

The pipe has broken away (is perished), is definatly the cause of my problems.
However I've made the problem worse, had replaced the rocker cover gasket, the gasket I've been given, is different from the one that was there (which didn't really seem to have anything wrong with it) with 'new' gasket oil is leaking from the rocker cover, reckon I'll just put the old one back, at least for now.

New Gasket fitted, everthing fine as far as that does, no leak.

My only concern was when removing one of the two centre bolts of the rocker cover I noticed that at sometime it must have been over tightened, some of the thread from the head block was wrapped around it
There was enough thread to hold the bolt, but I didn't torque it all the way to 10Nm as it felt like it was going to give completly.

Is it possible to get the block re-tapped? Will just one bolt not tighted to torque cause the gasket to leak?

Your right about the oil filler cap, I wipe the block doen so I can see any leaks, and there's oil seeping out of there.

The new crankcase breather valve from VW stealers is £50 + VAT!!!

There's enough of the old T pipe left to push on the breather valve, and I'll propably get a jubile clip to make sure it stays on (till I find out if ECP do one, or grab one from a scrappy)

The main problem that took the car of the road still exist, the cooling fan doesn't turn, new fan/motor (works if I short the switch, new thermostatic switch. I did notice that the raditor seems cold even though the pipes are hot, and the hot temp is all the way, the pressure cap is leaking as well.

I'm on my way back out to see if I can solve the fan problem, I suspect an air lock, hope it's not the pump, don't know how to do it but I've got to get my car back on the road before Monday.

yeah one bolt could cause a leak, get your self a new bolt (bigger than the existing on) and rethread the hole with some taps and dies available from diy shops and chavfords
