Door handle removal and repair
« on: 20 December 2011, 11:06 »
Hello guys.

It's been a long time since I last posted, but I have an issue with my door handle and would like some guidance.

The other week when we had some ice I can only imagine some damp got into my doors and then turned to ice and popped the little adjustment bit off the handle. I promptly fixed this on both driver's side doors front and rear.

I've always been told never to undo that little screw, but never really known why other than it'll drop into the door if you do... Now I know why you shouldn't undo it all the way  :embarrassed:

From what I understand I need to strip the door down and then there is 1 screw under the front edge of the handle which secures the rear mech to the door metal. Is that right?

I should be able to re-fit the locking C piece back to that mech and all will be well?

I was about to separate the mech from the glass last night, until I realised it was 10pm and already cold and windy outside so I aborted that lol

I'll have another go tonight if it's not too late.

Does that piece that I need to remove screw on anywhere else apart from the one hidden behind the exterior handle?

All sorted now - in the daylight lol

Hardest and most annoying part was getting the locking dowel into the mech to secure the glass back to it. it fell through the 1st try which resulted in me having to remove the panel again to get it back. 2nd try it went in ok.
