Inner cv joint leaking grease
« on: 24 November 2011, 21:50 »
Was underneath my 1.8T earlier (like you do ), and noticed grease was leaking from one of the inner cv joints. I was wondering how its leaked out as it has no splits. Also does anyone know if both sides are the same, I always though both sides were different but can only find one listed. I know the boots look different on either side, one side only has one clip. im abit confused with this, anybody know whats what here? Cheers.

Inner and outer boots are different.

Cheers for the quick replies. Daz thats a good point about the grease, it does look old, its kind of brown and sticky (like sh!t) . I thought that maybe at some point a split boot had leaked and someones put a new one on and not cleaned the old grease up. However, I have noticed a noise coming from the front of the car that sounds like a worn wheel bearing, however bearings are fine. Could it be said joint?  :undecided:

on my last m.o.t i had an advisory "grease found around cv boot offside front wiped off no signs of leak found "

thats because it was old grease so why he had to ruin my m.o.t certificate i dont know
