MK3 Steering Rack Gaiter
« on: 09 November 2011, 10:34 »
Hey people, any ideas how to replace a steering rack Gaiter, are there any guides on there, I imagine its just a case of somehow disconnecting the rack to the steering arm, sliding the old one off and sliding the new one on?

not 100% and never done it, but I think you have to drop the subframe out to get to it.  Its a PITA to get to - that I do know from experience!

You only ever need two tools in life. If it moves and it shouldn't use Duct Tape. If it does not move and it should, use WD40.

Wheel off. Remove track rod end from hub. remove track rod end (counting number of turns). undo both clips. slide the old one off and new one on. refit in reverse order.. hope this helps dude. ;)

  Think thats CV Gaitor.

Just from looking at it previously, if you can get underneath, you may be able to just undo the rack at the joint behind the gaitor, then slide old one off, and put new one on. I've got a new gaitor, but not fitted it yet so not entirely sure though.
