Sat Nav broke - blown Cig fuse
« on: 08 November 2011, 08:45 »
So I admit, I pulled a little hard on the Sat Nav the other day. Pulled the adapter end which slides into the cigarette lighters into two (i.e. fuse dropping out and piece falling off).

Now I can't use either the front cig lighter or the back at all.

My question is: What type of fuse do I need to buy from say, Halfords, and where can I find the location of the fuse? Is it simple enough for a complete car amateur to fit?

Cheers :)

Power outlet is #26 (20amp) and the Cigarette lighter is #24 (25amp).

fuse box to the right of your battery in your engine bay. see which is blown and replace as necessary.

fuses will look like this but might as well see which one you need before buying as your car is obviously still drivable.

I checked the manual last night and it said the cigarette lighter is at #42. It says nothing about the type of fuse needed. Are you saying I need a 25amp one? Is that all there is to it?

Also, is there a way to spot if a fuse is blown in general? will it look a lot different?

sorry pulled that from a website - must be wrong.

just replace it with the same type that's already there. all colour coded for different amp sizes.

Orange-5
Red-10
Blue-15
Yellow-20
Clear or Amber-25
Green-30

if you look at it side on it will have a burn / melt in the metal connecting the 2 terminals

Sorry, Adam. I've been meaning to thank you.

Must be something wrong with the manual as the fuse wasn't even in the right position. Luckily I noticed that the port beside the one it was supposed to be in was actually blown. I replaced that and it all worked again. Good stuff! :)
