missing spring?
« on: 31 October 2011, 14:20 »
How important are the smaller (helper) springs on coilovers?
Just went to raise my car (which is a recent purchase) and the drivers side front is completely not on there...

You can leave them out but you will be limited to how high you can run it.

Well since you can compress them with your hands I would say they do f**k all!
They are for when jacking the car up to hold the spring in place, so that the spring is seated in the right place when you lower the car back down.

Anyone that says they soften the ride would need to back this up

I never new that. I have been through loads of coilys and I never new that's what the helper was for.
Always makes me wonder how close to floor some people's cars are as I am about 10mm from bottom of thread on my front coilys and parts of metal frame under my car are so close to the road. If I took helpers out of mine my car would be sitting on the floor.
