Just an introduction post really
I used to own a VW Polo as my first car (a 2001 X Reg 1.0 in Flash Red) - absolutely loved the thing. It's 0-60 of 16 seconds was 'brought down' through some fairly agressive driving to around 13 seconds which at the time felt like warp speed. It spend the entire 70,000 miles I owned it above 4,000 RPM but never once did it complain or breakdown.
Switched to a new 5 Series when I got first job as an IT Consultant - 525i so somewhat faster - loved the BM and it's still in the family.
Decided to switch career and became a lawyer - resulting in the loss of the BM and inheriting the family Volvo (girl pulling power dropped quite a lot
)
That's done a good 202,000 and is on 'its last legs' so decided to buy a Golf Mk6 1.4 TSI (122ps) Match in Candy White a few weeks ago.
The Volvo averages around 20mpg on a good day - city driving it barely gets above 10 at the moment - 13/14 seems standard. motorway its getting around 30mpg. The golf averages over 40 so I literally cannot wait to reclaim hours of my life lost sitting in petrol stations spending silly amounts of money on fuel.
Will likely turn into the gf's car next year (we live in a city and dont really need two cars and hardly use the car we do have). Once we move out I'll be off to get a new Z4 (although after getting back into the VW brand i've started looking at the GTI) and she can pootle around in the Golf.
Been lurking on the forum for awhile and decided to finally post about some mods I wanted to make to the car once it finally gets delivered. All seems very civilised with members helping eachother out which is nice
