Most surfaces are smooth to the touch.

I worked in the aircraft industry and this type of corrosion is a b!tch to fix. evenmore so when you need a 'bare' aluminium looking surface after fixing it. here's a link to what was required to fix filiform corrosion.

I agree.
Aren't the 17" Monzas painted anyway?
Whiteworm only applies to diamond cut and lacquered wheels doesn't it?

You do get corrosion under the paint of painted wheels but it generally doesn't appear in the same way as 'white worm'.

Yes the 17s are painted. That 17 i have seen similar looking before at a dealer, the yellow swirls was due to curb rubbing

How the hell can anyone have wheels like that?! It's like they drove onto and back down the frickin' kerb! I, as a great lover of the 4 rings and don't have standard equipment like you guys, lower my passenger mirror when parking next to a kerb to avoid this!!

Took my car in for a service today and mentioned the 2 tiny spots on my Vancouver wheel. Told them it was Filiform corrosion (thought I'd hit them with the technical term). To be honest I thought they would chase me as there is only 10 months left on the warranty and it wasn't the main dealer I had bought the car from.  Couldn't believe when I went to pick the car up that they have ordered a new alloy for me!!

Result.

HIS: R 5dr DSG Lapiz: Tech Pack: Keyless: 90% Tints: Pretorias: Rear View Camera
HERS:  GTI 5dr Manual DBP: Parking Pack: Car-Net App: 90% Privacy Glass. Ordered 05-12-15. Delivered 03-03-16
DONATED TO SON:  GTD 5dr Manual White: Nav Pro: Dynaudio: Winter Pack: Sport & Sound Pack: Rear View Camera: Park Assist. Ordered 19-02-14. Delivered: 07-06-14

I had the two passenger side ones replaced due to white worm no questions asked.  I hadn't damaged them at all.
