How to watch F1 in 2012 and not pay for Sky
« on: 15 October 2011, 19:51 »
Here

and here

Just reserved the dish and receiver at my local B&Q. One of the reviews says this

Quote
"Bought this as many have to get RTL for Formula One for next year.
It had every thing I wanted to do the job. A tip when scanning Astra 1c (19.2) is to remove transponders 47 & 67 when scanning, if you don't the box will lock up.
The dish is a tad ugly, but wasn't worried as I didn't need it I just mounted the supplied LNB along side my existing Sky LNB. Even without the dish, its still excellent value."

Don't know what the transponders are but it's something I'll read about once I get the box.

Another review says

Quote
"Got this working eventually but Astra 19E (needed for German, French, Polish etc broadcasts) is not programmed into the box. The only way to get the dish aligned was to manually program in a couple of transponders and then align the dish. You then have to scan for all the transponders; stop the scan before the programme search and delete a couple of transponders which crash the box on the programme search (this means you can not get ORF 1 and 2 the main Austrian channels); finally scan the programmes in.

At Play.com you can get a signal finder for £5.40 delivered

Don't know how good it is but I presume the same as the rest more or less.

From what I've read on the net, this is a list of the channels you can get on Astra 19.2E. And

Note also that there is a FTA version of Eurosport International (Similar to British Eurosport 1 ) in German on 19.2 which carries some of the F1 support races GP2 and Porsche Supercup.

So F1 and the support races too!

Looks like you can just watch it online on RTL's live feed, hope that is the case as I dont want to be buying satelite receivers and playing with alignment.

I will be watching it live online for free, then catching up on the BBC for all the post race gossip and interviews.
More than one way to skin RM

Those B&Q dish and box sets are now £25 on their website. Read the reviews for how to guides.
