MK3 Golf relay problem
« on: 02 May 2005, 16:46 »
Hi All, Just bought a Mk3 golf cabby and I've got a few problems with the old girl.

When I bought her she had the wiper relay missing and she wasn't running very well

She starts up first time every time but when you try and accelerate she just sits there and takes her time (very slow) some times she coughs and splutters abit and I've got to drop the clutch and give her about 5 grand on the revs and then she clears herself and off she goes all beit a bit sluggish.

What I'm wandering is - is there a relay missing from the fuse box !!!!
are the injectors clogged up, I've just put some injector cleaner in the tank.

Maybe some body has some other ideas that might help

Thanks in advance

Cheers Alan, Have had a good look around, but what I really need is a pic of a fuse box from a mk3 just to see if there is a relay missing.

Cheers alan but it's more like what should be in 2..5..7, Hayne (splits on carpet) manual say's relay's 1 - 20 when theres only 12 relay slots  :undecided:

Does any boy know what the connections are just above the relays (small fuse type things)

Cheers

my haynes says 12 . 2 is rear window wash wipe relay, 5 not used, and 7 headlight washer relay.

the other components seem to mostly ABS relays and fuses plus lambda sensor relay, starter inhibitor relay, thermal fuse for elec windows, and electric seats fuse.

Just done the cam belt and tensioner and the timing is spot on, gona get a gas analyser at the weekend and check fuel/air mixture.
Hoping that'll cure the poor performance issue.

I said timing as i once had a similar problem and it turned out that the bottom pulley had snapped its locator tooth off so was turning on the shaft and the timing would be fine one min and not the next. Had very similar symptoms to what you described.
