any help or ideas very welcome
« on: 02 October 2011, 17:40 »
Hi All,
Was just wondering if anyone has a better idea than i do, i have a mk2 gti and it has just started getting a slight chug/missfire it isnt all the time and once i have done a couple of miles it doesnt really do it at all.  Do you think it may be the spark plugs that need re-gapping and cleaning again?? also when i first start her up and also sometimes when im travelling at 30 or 40 the rev counter has started to get a mind of its own the needle jumps up and down but then after a while it settles down and moves at the revs it pretty much should be, the front electric windows have gone on the blink do you think all these may be electrical or the fuses?? any help would be very much appreciated,
Thanks alot guys.
Craig.

If thats what you think it is and it could be... Fit a new set of plugs, HT leads, Cap & Arm...

Not expensive if you get a set from GSF etc...

I voted ideas

seriously though, a full service sounds like it is in order.

Check the window fuse first, then go to the switches.

Rev counter could be a bad earth or connection to the alternator...

Windows could be fuse or relay or motors packed up... If OEM Motors I'm told you can take them off and clean up the brushes...

Thanks alot guys i think it may be the spark plugs myself were would you recommend purchasing from and what type of plug? at the minute i have got an alternative plug you can use for the mk2's, it is going in for a service very soon as i get so many comments about the car its shame to have the slight chug, when i put a fuse in the fuse box for the windows it was fine so power is getting there so may have to go to the switches maybe?

I've seen a rev counter do that and the car running rough when the earth had broken to the engine on a 16v I had years ago.

Is it easy and cheap enough to replace earth to engine??
Cheers again.
