Does this sound resonable?(change of car)
« on: 09 October 2011, 08:57 »
Ok so my missus has been paying monthly with Flux for her 1998 1.7 Ford Puma it was about £52 a month over 9 months with like a £40 deposit.
She's now paid up on this as of last month. She rang them up to tell them that this month she would be switching her insurance over to a 2001 1.6 16v MK4 Golf SE.

Now i know for a fact that this is a much lower insurance roup a Pedro the Puma is classed as a "sports car"
They told her to switch over and be insured till the end of the month it will be a one off payment of £129.To me that sounds a little bit harsh as its basically paying £129 for 3 months insurance on a policy that is basically paid up.

Shes only been driving 2 years and at the end of this year she will have 2 years NCB with no points or claims.
I dont want to cancel the policy as she will lose her last years NCB.

Sooo what shall i do?Do i just stop whinging and pay up or keep her current policy running and just take out a fresh one for Penny the MK4 Golf?

Cheers.

Gaz

Bloody hell. id shop around kid

Insurance is the most confusing thing on the planet

My lad (age 17) pays 3100 for a 1.2 corsa. His head gasket went so started filling his head full of golf gti (mk3) so he does a quote on on cofused and gets a quote from the same insurance company at 1400. How the hell does that work. A 17yr old driving a 2.0 8v gti for under 1500!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers lads
I had a feeling I'd end up paying the £120 but thought it was a bit of a p1ss take really.
I think at 28 with 1 years ncb and driving under 2 years £520tpft with breakdown cover wasn't bad on a pooma but just assumed it would be cheaper for the lil mk4!
Ah well

You have to remember the Puma is based on a Fiesta so is really cheap to run and repair, Golf's on the other hand tend to cost more to sort so always tend to be higher insurance.

Yeah I never thought about it like that mate.Although with the mk4 being a lower insurance group you would expect it to be lower

I've been requested to keep her new car standard...... so I might just stick some coilys on it and lower it 5mm a week then tell her that a wheel is buckled and we need new alloys

When she had my mk3 as her 1st car she requested that it stay standard and we all know what happened there!

Stuff it then I will pay the £120 and stick the mods on the renewal.I'm pretty sure if I get her a set of 18's for her bday she may thump/leave me so best forget that idea
