winter tyre sizes.
« on: 28 September 2011, 18:43 »
Good evening

I am getting some Winter Tyres sorted ready for my 50 mile commute,

I am running 215/50-17s as standard, but have got the chance for a set of 205/50-17

I know it will drop the rolling radius by 1.55% or 10mm, and will affect the already out a tad speedo.

but will there be any other issues ?

I cant see there being any issues bud.

As for the speedo being altered I would have thought it would have stayed the same due to you using 50's on the winters.  I could understand the speedo being slightly out say if you dropped them to 40's but as in width from a 225 to a 205 I am sure you will be ok

You'll run slightly higher engine speeds for the same actual speed.

Acceleration will be slightly sharper.

Your Vectarse will look slightly gayer.

You may not notice any of this.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Is that why the old ones are doing 50mph in a 30 zone?

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.
