Driver Clocks Mystery
« on: 24 April 2005, 19:35 »
The Speedo on my 1991 Driver works, but the odometer doesn't.

Obtained a set of clocks-went to fit them to find out they are different. The one's I bought have two electrical plugs on them, but the ones in my car (although identical looking) only have one (under the large clock). i have seen others at the scrapyard that are the same two plug ones (but with too high a mileage on them-one had 339,000 on it!!)

Anyone know why these clocks are different is? And anyone got a set of similar clocks for sale?

golfs after august 89 had differnt electrics setup including the ignition and clocks being differnt, not sure what the later models are called but pre aug 89 is VDO if you look at the face of the speedo it has vdo on one of the dials and you should find your golf doesnt have that its something else not sure why this is but i know that there was a problem with them blowing when the car was jump started youll need to find the later single plug version.

You can just swap the speedo from the replacement clocks into your dash, but it involves tripping them down.  Not too dificult.

The other option is to fix the odometer in your clocks, theres an excellent guide here:
