Turbo Solutions? Anyone used them?
« on: 12 September 2011, 20:09 »
Evening all, have recently bought a 150tdi Mk4 which had a re-con turbo from Turbo Solutions in Durham fitted back in May.

Am having boost issues, it's had a new N75, hoses all checked seem OK, new Maf and EGR solenoid. Have also cleaned out EGR which was heavily sooted up.

Spoke to one of the guys at R-tec this morning, whose opiinions seem to matter on this forum who said they have had problems with turbos from these guys.

Has anyone had a replacement/repair done by them?

Newbie so be nice...

Hello,

I think you spoke to Jim at r-tech this afternoon?

What we find with recondition vnt turbos from a lot of turbo builders is that the VNT setup is never correct, both on the lower stop and the arm movement. You could spend many hours trying to set it up and it still won't be 100%.  The way forward is to get a new oem unit or a good second hand one.

Hi,

Yeah it was Jim i spoke too, was just wondering if anyone else has had a turbo off them. Would you fit the new turbo prior to doing the remap when i get one? Can't really stretch to a new turbo so will try and source a good used one, thanks for your help.

Best bet is pop your car down to us so we can give it a test drive and log the boost and n75 duty cycle and see how bad its drawing the air.  I have contact number for a few people who have been in the same situation. One guy sent his 110k turbo off to get reconditioned was a precaution to having his car mapped, it came back in worse state, no spool up but then at 3000rpm 32psi.. Just on stock mapping, the turbo builders blamed the car after the turbo went back to them 4 times.. In the end he got the car to us, where we stripped the turbo rebuilt it and spent over 12hours setting it up.  Another one a car trader that uses us spent £199 to smokey have a 140pd turbo fix, end result was no boost below 3000rpm. Over the past 4 years I have see around 10 turbos like this and any more which I have not seen.

Hello,

If you call the office again and speak to Jim the R-tech technician he will try and find you a slot for Friday. (just mention you spoke to Nick on the forum about getting it checked out)
