passat tdi stripped tming belt
« on: 11 September 2011, 19:41 »
looking for a bit of advice here.

my dad rang me this morning asking to tow his car, it just cut out, his first thought was check belt (been done 20k ago, with pump and tensioners) and it looked fine, the antifreeze was filled with engine oil so he thought it was the gasket or the turbo. he tried to restart it and it turned but didnt fire or even attempt to.

got it home and went to scan it but before i got a chance he noticed about 4 inchs of teeth has been stripped off the belt, to the right of the camshaft. its goin back to garage who did the work tomorrow along with a few angry words, but the fact theres oil in the water still has me thinking something else has caused this, it was in last week to get the clutch and flywheel done, i cant think of anything that could have been damaged while this was done

any ideas?

ually means something has grabed, it takes a lot to strip cambelt teeth las one i met a cam cap had grabed then released but in the mean time the crank puly hac removed all the teeth for a few inches of the belt
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

sounds like something locked up which lead to stripping the belt.
