Replacing door _Easy DIY?
« on: 07 September 2011, 08:06 »
Looking to swap one of my rear doors with a new shiney one. Is it as simple as disconnect, unbolt, remove...bolt on new one and connect loom?

easy peasy matey - I did this the other day as my old door was rusting around the window and rain water seeped in.

couple of pointers though.

1) the doors are fookin' heavy! you'l best need another guy with you. One to hold door and one to tighten hex bolts.

2) once in place I found we spent 10 mins or so just 'hanging' the door correctly. as the door is pretty heavy you almost need to lift it higher than where it sits in the frame, as when it is left to hang of its own accord the weight of the door will bring it back down in line with the frame.  basically it will take a little bit of fiddling to get it to sit right, not rub on the body etc.

3) make sure you connect the electric 'plug' and tighen all the bolts before slamming the door!

4) lastly mine is dragon green - I'm a bit padantic, and notice that the 'new' door is slightly lighter in colour than the car.  I reckon i only notice it though because i know its a different door - but a point worth mentioning...

good luck
