What annoyed me today

hey guys.

So 5 am this morning i wake up for work and have to pick my mate up at 5.30, just as i'm driving to his a screw just drops out of nowhere. I'm like "wtf?" as it's 5 am and i'm not with it yet but put the screw in my door pocket. When i finished and got home i decided to investigate. Turns out that at some point some twit has taken the plastic from around the steering column, just behind the steering wheel. When this twit has refitted it they have lost the screws so they put in other ones, which fit the first hole but are too big for the second one and rip the screw hole to bits. The plastic gave up today and this is where the screw came from. The plastic holds on kind of, someone has super glued it at some point 

So now i need a new one, hope these are common (need the screws and all) How much are these bits of plastic from around the steering column?

The plastic on the cowling is extremly brittle and you can break them very easily,even with care,maybe use a slightly longer screw to refit the original cowl if theres enough meat left where the screws go in

It's a common problem.On my current one the threads had gone so i heated up two short lengths of m4 threaded bar and screwed them in to the holes the screws went in to in the top half whilst they were hot.Then i opened the holes out to m4 in the bottom half and fitted the two halfs together (off the car).If you cut the threaded bar just long enough so it ends up flush with the bottom half and does'nt protrude (so you do'nt catch your knees  ).As the holes are recessed i used two pieces of rubber tube to slide over each side of the threaded bar leaving enough space to get the nuts on.Them i just do the nuts up with a small 3/8 drive socket and as they get tighter the rubber tube compresses and it does'nt rip the threads out again !.

Thanks Screech16v and gasketface (especially for the links  ) I will most likely order a new one as i love my car and want the full parts for it. I could fix it but rather would get another one and not have to worry about my plastic work falling apart 

only things left now for it are rear mats, shiny new 16v badge for the front and cleaning gear so i can do a real nice job on the paint work

well i did have someone else off the forum wanting to buy it, they said i would get the ££ on friday, and i'm still waiting so i might as well help someone else out
