cylinder head overhaul

hey i have been doing some research and found at the my mk 3 could do with a cylinder head overhaul (due to it being over 100,000 miles) does anyone know if this means i just have to buy a new cylinder head or is there more involved in it

It's better to rebuild unless you buy new or a recon one, otherwise you're on the same boat. It's not too hard servicing the head yourself, you need a few tools you may not have already like valve spring compressor. Other than that it's only a few moving parts in the head itself. Get yourself some valve lapping paste and a valve lapper, something to clean all the carbon off the head, new seals and valve guides and some new lifters and you're done. Get a machinist to skim the head if it looks like it needs a skim when you're all done with it.

so if i was to service it myself then my list of things i need is
1. valve spring compressor
2. Valve lapping paste
3. valve lapper
4. new seals
5. valve guides
6. new lifters

7. something to clean the carbon off
8. machinist to skim the head if it looks like it needs doing

thanks for your advice im a novice in the tuning world this being my first project

9. a large piece of wood and a big hammer to hit it with when you get p***ed off with it all
10. something for the blisters on your hands from all the valve grinding. :laugh:
