Stinking golf
« on: 31 August 2011, 20:50 »
After i bought the car i soon noticed once the motor was warmed up, if i came to a stop with the window down a horrible stink would woft in ,further investigation led me to a breather pipe with a great big hole in it,so new pipe fitted and the smell kind of half went but was still there but not as potent, checked everything over and over ,months and months went by 11 to be exact just putting up with it, thought the engine was breathing heavy and pumping the smell out the exhaust, until the other week hooray  i finally solved this stinking mystery, under the car i was ripping yet another heat shield off  the one that sits over the cat, BINGO ,there it was, gearchange cables covered in thick sticky gooy melted rubber, guess it was the remains of some kind of anti vibration stuff, like 2 rubber tubes with fins, one on each cable, yes i thought no more breathing in that sh!t,so pulled it all off ,now i can pull up at the drive through without feeling sick before my meal, now just after ,.Anybody else had this?
