mk4 black smoke from exhaust HELP
« on: 22 August 2011, 12:45 »
Can any1 help, i Have a 99 AGU mk4 1.8t golf with 195 remap, lately the car has started smoking from the exhaust when at running temp, starts off with a little black smoke on tick over but when you rev it is alot worst, if you hold the revs on it clears, its just the initial rev or launch when it throws out the smoke & if you leave it ticking over for 5 min onwards it really smokes when you rev it. Any1 got any ideas, thanks.

Black smoke would suggest overfueling so might be worth getting it scanned and seeing if any fault codes are stored.

Could be a problem with the map in that case.

Will make no difference, oil being burnt would be blue smoke.

Could use a little oil on start up if it were valve stem seals.

on start up it runs clear, it starts as the temp builds up to 75plus.
