cold start

Does anyone know why my 16v doesnt like starting first thing in the morning. It takes a while to fire up any ideas.

Could be a faulty cold start valve. There is a 5th injector that goes into the right of the inlet manifold, that is the cold start valve. The purpose of this injector is to spray a small amount of fuel in when starting from cold, how long the injector sprays for is dependent on coolant temperature(i think). Whats the car like restarting when hot?

The car starts good as gold for the rest of the day its just the first time that is always the tricky one.

I would check the ignition timing, mixture, spark plugs , cap , rotor arm, all the basics really. But i do suspect it probably is the cold start injector which is your problem.

I changed the plugs rotorarm and dizzy cap 2000 miles ago with genuine vw parts. If it is the coldstart valve can it be fixed or is it a new one.

mine will start first time @ 6.20am when I goto work, but after it's been sat at work for 8 hours it'll turn over 10 times before firing up.

got new plugs, leads, rotor arm and dizzy, but still no joy. tis weird.

Golfvr6 is right, check the 5th injector. It'll also be worth checking the thermotime switch which basically controls the cold start valve (5th injector). Nearly every golf i have had as has a dodgy thermo time switch.
To test it pull off the connector to the cold start valve and put a volt meter across the terminals. Turn the engine over when the car is stone cold and check that you have a voltage. If not replace the thermo time switch or check the wiring to the switch.
