Some random questions that I keep forgetting to ask!

I keep meaning to find out about a few bits but always forget to post, so here they all are before i forget again!

Paint - My paint code is L041 and ive got a couple of bits to paint, only L041 paint i can find online is touch up stuff. Is Halfords spray gonna a close enough match? Other than that ive got black high temp paint but is that suitable? Obviously got primer and lacquer as well.

Drilled airbox - Done this and now my car feels worse low done and reluctant to rev when below about 3k, coincidence or a known problem? I stick my foot down and a lot more noise than before but no real movement!

Drilled airbox - When winter time comes around, is the car gonna start in the mornings? Or should I replace the drilled one with a standard one come winter?

VR6 splitter - Stuck one of these on the other day and it does fit, but where it joins in the middle it doesnt look right, theres a bit of a gap and it looks funny. Dunno if buying aftermarket one is the problem or are they all like that?

what few bits have you got to paint? all blacks are different.

probably a bit of heat soak, is it ok once its moving? mine does this when its hot in traffic but i have a k&n cone fitted

common problem with aftermarket splitters, most propple just put up with it, i dont like it so i'm sticking with my gti one.

Halfords paint isnt always that good a match, but cant see it being too bad on a black car. Dealership will get you exact but can is only 150ml 2 part base and lacquer. Not cheap either.

Again possibly heat soak for your airbox, and should be fine in winter.

Correct for it being the aftermarket splitter. Not always a very good fit.

Point 1:
I used to mix the Halfords spray paints. They are a reasonable match, but there are custom colour companies online who can mix to order from a paintcode cheaper and better.

Clean your MAF! And your throttle body while you're at it.

Im planning to paint my badgeless grill although it doesnt look too noticeable unpainted so its not really urgent. But its nice to know for the future.

Just went and got summat out my car, and noticed that the centre of the splitter where it joins had unclipped itself and it was barely hanging on! And its f***ing cracked already!! Had it on two days!!  And my car is riding at standard height! F**king ebay tossers! Doubt theyre gonna refund me for a shoddy product...
Rant over.

With regards to cleaning throttle body and MAF, im not exactly mechanically profficiant as im a tv salesman by trade!  Im gathering that the throttle body is somehow connected to the airbox and located near the airbox? Something to do with air / fuel mixture? If anyone can guide me though I am more than willing to have a crack at it, as im trying to learn as much as I can!
(btw feel free to laugh at my lack of knowledge and call me names as much as you want, im expecting it!)

I am buy no means a spray guru, but paint just dont match.
It takes a lot of technique to blend (which i dont have) a paint into the adjacent panels, just having the right code does not mean the mix is going to match your paint either.
Save your money and get it done properly if its a panel, only painting cans is good for is wing mirror trims etc.

Flat colours aren't too bad to match, but metallics for example it depends on which direction the flakes were sprayed in. Then we start getting into the realms of pain fade...

Yeah flat paint behind bumpers or low on the sills is ok to match, but metallic paint baked on in wolfsburg is in the realms of the pro's, then you talk about time fade and if the paint supplied is mixed exactly right.....
I would rather drive round with marks and rust than have a panel i can spot a mile away.

You will get a feather effect as well with the lacquer. Needs to be blended and cut in properly as this is where you will notice most. Trust me, I have just done a small patch on my passenger door!
