So I'm looking to buy another mk2 golf, but I have a new issue that I face! The new Insurance law that has been brought in a couple of months ago. (See:
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/Motorinsurance/DG_186696)
Basically, if I were buying a car, I would pick up the new car on a day insurance, drive it home and then leave it on my drive. Then wait until I can sell my current car to then swap over to the mk2. The issue is after the one day insurance, this car would now be un-insured but with tax on, thus breaking the law!
Now, the website does mention: "The exceptions are... if your vehicle is recorded as stolen, passed or sold to the motor trade or
between registered keepers"
This seems pretty vague. Will it mean I have a few weeks of it being off the road, but in the process of swapping to my ownership? And what would they do if they did catch me? Is it a case of a warning letter, then the possibility of a fine after that or do they just go straight to a fine?
While the new law is annoying in this sense, I'm totally for it. Hopefully it cuts the number of uninsured drivers on the road!
Thanks
