FML
« on: 10 July 2011, 20:35 »
f**k my legs. I was taking my digi golf out for a drive and dropped my car into third, put my foot down to overtake and it died. Pulled to the side of the road and started to have a play around, took off a fuel line and fuel came out when it started. Unplugged various sensors but with the same result.

On the roadside I changed the spark plugs and made sure that there was a spark.

At present the ISV is unplugged and the other sensors are plugged in. The car will start and have a really low idle 250 rpm or so, after a little while 30 or so seconds and dies out, when I put my foot on the throttle the car just dies.

Had a look at the distributor arm and cap and they did look a little corroded and in need of replacement so tomorrow i'll get a cap,arm and HT leads. Any other suggestions?

Cheers

James

I fixed a similar sounding problem with a new lift pump (the one in the fuel tank). Car would die when the fuel level in the tank was low, as the pump struggled. Id did pump fuel when tested (at the roadside by the RAC man), but not enough to sustain speed!

try one of these:

I replaced the lift pump(new) and under car pump(2nd hand) a couple of months ago. When you take the fuel line off the rail fuel spurts out. You can also hear the fuel pump priming at the first turn of the ignition, i'll see if I can get hold of another fuelpump. I'll also put an extra gallon of fuel in it to see

id just squirt some easy start down the manifold and open the throttel while it's bumping over, if it revs away its a fuel issue.   cheack for air leacks
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

Turns out was a broken wire to the air flow sensor!
