Wheel Bearing or Ball Joint???
« on: 21 July 2011, 11:53 »
Think I have found out way I have started getting really bad wheel wobble

Noticed I have started getting a knocking noise from the passengers side when going over bumps etc as well... But it was fine before I jacked up my car
Jacking up the car must have broken the ball joint or something

Hopefully it's an easy fix, new ball joint and it will be as good as new?

Cheers

cant tell nothing from that pic, have you tried stressing it with a pry bar?

wheel bearing is an easy test, put one hand at top of your wheel and one at bottom and then push and pull to see if theres any movement in the bearing, if theres give then its goosed

Its a video if you click them

Doubt it will be the wheel bearing though. It was done about a year ago, 10-15,000 miles ago....

looks like it has a fair bit play, definately change it. simple job on these cars, dont have to drop the whole wishbone like some other cars

Thats good news cos mine seems a bit like this. Can you just replace the actual ball joint? Ive seen them for sale seperately.

Forgot to take a few photos. But the new ball joint is on! Took it a test drive and the knocking sound has gone... but didn't have the time to go a proper run on the motorway to see if the wheel wobble has gone to. But hopefully it is

You just buy the ball joint separate and it just bolts into/onto the end of the wishbone only took an hour to do as well. But you will need a ball joint splitter or it will take a lot longer!
