6 disk changer in dash - skips

Hi,

My other half has her 6 disk changer in the dash, and it seems to be pretty unreliable with CDs - we have tried the obvious things like a cleaning cd, but no joy. it seems to be worse when the car has been sat in the sun for a while, but it can be just as bad when its cooler. is there anything you guys would recommend trying before scouring ebay for a replacement unit? my gti has the 6 disk changer in the boot and thats been pretty reliable, so cant even swap them over as a test to rule out anything else being at fault.

are they copies or orig? if its copies try burning them slower.

other than that it looks like a new unit, they come up quite cheap on ebay. fixing an old unit could cost a small fortune depending whats wrong

i have tried a mix of copied disks and originals and the same occurs with both.

i had pretty much assumed it would need a replacement unit, but thought i would ask the question first.

anyone else got any thoughts on this one? i have spoken to a friend who thinks most CD player issues are down to focus axis being out, and said you can normally adjust them with brands like Sony (i think the multi changers on the mk4 are rebranded sony arent they?) but you need to take them out - apparently a good test is to leave it plugged in, and slide the mult changer part out and turn it upside down and then play them (apparently the old playstation one had the same issue).

if i get a chance at the weekend, i will give this a go

Don't think they're Sony, usually Blaupunkt.
