TPMS

On all of my other cars I check the tyre pressures weekly along with all the other regular checks, but after 3 months with the Mk6 I haven't checked them once yet.

I suppose I ought to, but would this mean having to reset the TPMS if I have to put 1/2 PSI in? I understand it takes quite a few miles to re-learn the new pressure, by which time it'll be next weekend and I'll be doing it all over again.

Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Its not that sensitive. I had to let 4-5 psi out of a single tyre before it triggered.
I actually let 3 PSI out of them all one weekend and it did not notice.

1/2 psi isn't enough to make any difference mine normally comes on after a 3 psi drop. You shouldn't have to press the SET button with a 1/2 psi drop?

I believe you can change the pressure threshold with VCDS.

TPMS is looking at the difference in wheel speed across an axle. So if one tyre is several psi lower than the other it'll warn you. If you're inflating the tyres to the same pressure each side, it won't activate. Doesn't have anything to 'learn' either - the reset button provides it with a datum.

The teach-in process is performed once after the SET key is pressed for the low tyre pressure indicator. During the next trip, the control unit saves the measured wheel speeds and the vibration characteristics of the wheels in various vehicle operating states.
The vehicle operating states are basically defined by the following parameters: vehicle speed, steering angle, transverse acceleration and yaw velocity. These teach-in values subsequently make up the target data which is used for monitoring. After approximately 10 minutes of driving, it is already possible to detect a breakdown (rapid loss of pressure). Approximately 60 minutes of driving are required to detect diffusion loss (slow loss of pressure).
