Anyone got their lenses/bodies serviced?
« on: 11 July 2011, 14:14 »
Matron.

My 500D is struggling to auto-focus at the moment, which is driving me up the wall (but I'm also having fun with manual focus - a silver lining).

As I swap lenses when I'm out and about I wouldn't be surprised if something had got grubby somewhere along the line.

I'm thinking about sending off the body and the 10-20mm lens to get them serviced/checked over.  Has anyone else done this, or has any experiences with doing this?
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Not had mine done but I do clean up the contacts ont eh body/lens interfaces with a pencil rubber every now and again.

Try your local independent photo establishment to see what they can offer.

common canon problem

As a rule you're meant to get them serviced every year.

Like nick said, check your local shop as better to pay them slightly more than a the faff with postage fees and the lenses being off somewhere.

I would, only there's no frigging Canon dealer on the Diamond Hell.

Only p*ssing Nikon and I don't have no Nikons.

My brother sent off his nice 17-55 f2.8 lens back to Canon for a service and a fix. Cost about £100 I think, which on a £700+ lens  it's worth it.
My Sony 50mm has I think got some sand in it which is making it sticky when focussing, thanks to going to the beach with the family last week. Not pleased about that.

I dropped an L series lens once, still works, could do with getting my body cleaned, and a new focusing screen.
80% of your posts are total tripe, as they are mostly replies to sh1te posts created by the morons that, unfortunately this forum attracts.

If I've wanted anything repaired or serviced, I've gone straight to the UK importer; Canon UK or Sigma UK.

Saves any delays and potential mark ups by a shop
