mk2 8v rocker cover gasket upgrade.
« on: 09 April 2005, 08:41 »
this may be usefull for some people and is quite a common upgrade. as your old rocker cover gasket gets worn it'll start to leak oil. you see so many mk2 8valves with real dirty heads from the oil seepage. the one people tend to get is a cork gasket with a little blue bit to sit in the semi circle, these do the job but don't last long.
the one you should be using is this one:

i think it was standard on mk3's but it was on my car when i got it. basiclly its a one piece metal framed, with rubber outer gasket that has a 'labyrinth' seal which keeps the oil in there.

part number is 026 103 483 g.

its a 10 minute job to do and can pretty much be done with a 10mm socket so if your gasket is leaking this is the one to use. i've had mine since i bought the car and the amount of times i've had the cover off mine and its still perfect. mine is a digifant so they definately fit but should fit all mk2 8 valves.

just thought that might be usefull for others.

When you get a cam cover gasket from VW for a 8v, they usually supply that gasket as a kit with different studs that you must use.

I had to use the longer studs they supplied as the gasket is quite thick.

worth mentioning. I refitted everything and realised afterwards

Does this only apply to the 8v? or 16 as well. And if not has anyone got the part number for the 16v version?

Mine leaks like a anything at the moment, and I'm trying to get myself worked up to sort it out, How much of a job is it for a novice like me?

16v rocker cover gasket from EuroCarParts is fine for 16v's. im using one at the mo with no probs at all

very easy to fit. just need to remove the inlet manifold then you have access to all the bolts required to remove the rocker cover
